Instagram used to alert accounts that had taken screenshots of their stories with a starburst icon many years ago. It was located next to the timestamp and indicated who took the screenshot.
Instagram removed the story screenshot notification feature after IGers complained in June 2018.
Can other apps help know who screenshot your Instagram story?
You might have heard of third-party apps that will tell you when your story was captured and who took it.
There's no way other apps provide such information to Instagram users since they don't share either information or common interests. So for this feature to work, Instagram should implement the functionality by itself.
How to see who viewed Instagram stories
You can first check who has viewed your story. This information is accessible right within the Instagram app. Unfortunately, IG does not provide this information to third-party apps.
You can swipe up from the pane for 48 hours after posting a story segment to see who has viewed it.
This applies to stories in your archive as well as highlights. However, after 48 hours, you won't see who viewed it. Therefore, it is best to verify the video right after it disappears so that you don't forget.

You can also prevent certain people from taking photos of your Instagram Stories or even seeing them. You can hide your stories! These are the steps to hide your Instagram Story.
- Open their profile and tap on their username in the top right to block someone.
- Next, select "Followers".
- Next, click the three-dot button at the bottom.
- Then, press on the "Hide From Feed" option and tap "Hide Story."
If you remove someone from your story, they will not be able to see it or take screenshots. However, their friends will still be able to view any photo or video content shared through Stories, provided that the post is not public or saved with memories. Tips for screenshotting Instagram stories
The steps for taking an Instagram screenshot will vary depending on your phone type. You can take a screenshot of any other app on your phone just as you would with any other app. However, you are taking screenshots of Instagram Stories in the mobile application.
The short answer is to take a picture of an Instagram Story.
- Older iPhones: Hold the home and lock buttons simultaneously.
- Newer iPhones: Press the volume up and power buttons simultaneously.
- Android: Press both the volume up and power buttons simultaneously.
Once you have taken a photo of an Instagram Story from someone, the picture will automatically be saved to your camera roll.
